WARNINGS about possible flooding have been issued for parts of the South East, including the Isle of Wight.
The Environment Agency warning came after torrential rain had already led to flooding at Southern Water’s sewage treatment works at Yaverland yesterday (Sunday).
The fire and rescue service said seven industrial units were affected by floodwater at lunchtime on Sunday and fire appliances spent more than three hours pumping-out the affected buildings.
The Met Office has issued weather warnings for today and tomorrow and the Environment Agency has warned there could be more flooding due to heavy rain.
Teams from the EA have been checking flood defences, clearing river blockages and monitoring river levels, according to a spokesman.
Andrew Gilham, Flood and Coastal Risk Manager for Solent and South Downs at the Environment Agency, said: "We are keeping a close eye on rainfall levels across south Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
"There is a possibility of localised surface water flooding from this into Monday and Tuesday.
"We ask that people stay safe, by staying away from swollen rivers and not attempting to drive through floodwater.
"We also strongly urge people to sign up to flood warnings, keep a close eye on local weather forecasts and be prepared for the possibility of flooding."
The EA said that in addition to surface water flooding, river flood alerts (meaning that flooding is possible) and warnings (meaning that flooding is expected) could be issued over the next three days.
It urged people to check the Environment Agency website for the latest information.
