A DOG belonging to an Isle of Wight councillor has today (Monday) fallen over the cliff at Luccombe.
The dog, owned by Havenstreet, Ashey and Haylands councillor Vanessa Churchman, was rescued by police and the coastguard rescue teams from Ventnor and Bembridge after they received a call at 12.45pm.
The black and white dog is not thought to have been injured but was stuck on a cliff ledge, according to Chris Welsford, of the Ventnor Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team.
He said there was a 50/50 chance the dog could be rescued before it fell further down the cliff.
"This has happened before with the same dog and the message is clear - keep your dog on a lead when walking near cliff edges," he said.
The dog was rescued at about 3.30pm after it was lowered down the cliff to be reunited with its owner.
