FUNDRAISERS will soon be all of a Twitter.
Island users of the internet website Twitter have got an unusual new way to raise money for Island charities. They are running a local version of the Twestival, an international event in February 2009 that raised £150,000 for a clean water charity.
The Island Twitterers will be organising the event almost entirely by short, 140-character messages on the popular Twitter website.
The mass Island Twitter will take place on Saturday at the Blacksheep Bar, Ryde, raising funds for the Island-based charity Gift to Nature.
The Isle of Wight Twestival has the theme Comedy and Cocktails and features one of the Island’s top comedians, Richard Quigley, and other stars including award-winning comic Ric Wharton, winner of the 2008 Paramount student comedy awards.
As well as comedy there will be an auction and live music from Ben Fiddle and the Twestival DJs.
Island Twestival organiser Benjamin Dyer said (in 140 characters) "It’s amazing how much you can do with 140 characters. We’re expecting to generate lots of money for Island wildlife and have a great night!"
Martin Gibson, from Gift to Nature, said (in 140 characters): "It’s great to be the charity for the first Isle of Wight Twestival. Donations like this help us to care for the Island’s wonderful wildlife."
Island partners for Twestival are The Blacksheep Bar, Sportiesonline.com, Pinkeye Graphics and Wight Hand Man Marketing.
