PLANS for an unofficial alternative Race for Life have started to take shape.

As reported last week, a participant due to take part in the cancelled event, has invited others to join her on an unofficial alternative in Appley on July 29.

Sue Plummer has invited those due to take part in Race for Life to join her and a group of friends as they take on an 5km route in Ryde.

Sue said: "We meet at Appley Cafe at 10am, we then set off at 10.30am and we walk towards Puckpool Park, we go round the seafront past the beach huts and turn into Puckpool Park by the Boathouse Pub.

"We walk through Puckpool Park and come out at the cafe, we then walk along to Appley Cafe, that is 2.5k.

"We then repeat this walk.

"There are three toilets en route and 3 cafes for refreshments and there is parking for people along most of the route.

"As I have previously mentioned this is totally unofficial so no stewards, warm up, first aid, singing etc.

"There are no rules, you can wear what you like, anything goes. You can wear your 'I race for' cards.

"One stipulation is that it is only ladies please," said Sue, 43, of Elm Close, Ryde.

Sue added: "A few of us have written to Race for Life expressing our disappointment and to see if they want to re-arrange the venue and also keep this on the Island.

"If something is important, the weather doesn't matter."

A Facebook group has been set up for the event which can be viewed here http://www.facebook.com/groups/388445541211048/

No it isn't David, but this has always been a ladies only event. If there are any blokes out there looking to organise an event then please feel free. i have been contacted by 1 person trying to organise an event. Maybe instead of complaining about this you should organise a mens only race...there is always Movember....just a thought. Action not reaction !
