Runners and cyclists who took to the streets on Saturday in memory of a young man who died of cancer raised about £4,500.

Joe Brennan, of Elm Drive, North Harrow, organised the 33 Challenge in tribute to his brother Kevin, who died of throat cancer in September aged 33.

The team of Kevin's friends completed three 11 mile laps of a route through South and North Harrow, raising the cash through sponsorship and collecting in shops and pubs.

The money will go to the Harrow-based George Aldridge Charity which distributes money to organisations such as the Macmillan cancer care nurses.

"It was a brilliant day," said Joe, 36. "Everyone got around safe and sound and we had a really good response from the shops and pubs.

"I am really pleased."

Joe is now organising another fundraising event at St Joseph's Social Club in Wealdstone on January 16. For tickets, ring him on 0378 933665.
