UPDATED 11:53*

THOUSANDS of homes in Ryde, Wootton and Binstead are without electric again following a power cut this morning (Thursday).

Southern Electric said a fault occurred in the main network, at around 9.10am, leaving around 4,000 of homes without power, just a day after more than 1,000 homes were hit by a power cut.

Shortly afterwards, around 2,500 homes had their power restored, a Southern Electric spokesman said.

Southern Electric said it hoped the remaining 1,500 homes would have power within two hours.

Some traffic lights have been affected and the Isle of Wight Council has advised drivers to take care at junctions.

Around 1,300 homes in Ryde, Wootton and Binstead were affected by a power cut yesterday morning.

Wightlink sailings from Fishbourne have been hit by delays as a result of the powercut, the company said at 11am.

Wightlink said the powercut meant they could not adjust the linkspan for unloading.

*At 11.45am Southern Electric said 79 homes were still without power.

Properties in the following roads remained affected: Newnham Road, Verwood Drive, Binstead Hill, Church Hill, Arnold Road and Quarr Hill.

What planet are you two on, suggesting wind turbines would solve the power outages? Don't you realise it has nothing to do with the source of the electrical supply, but faults in switchgear, cables etc.Do you believe that power from a wind turbine would arrive at your house by magic??

Thanks Mr Miller - I spotted a plague of locusts at Brook earlier today but didn't think anything of it - now it makes sense.

power cuts, burst water mains, whats next in store for this twee and intrinsically vulnerable island of ours ? the four horsemen of the apocalypse ? just as well that these catastrophic events did not occur in closer proximity to hrh and entourage, it would have been a disaster which could have set the island back decades !!!

it seems these reports of power outages are on the increase. has anyone thought of erecting some giant wind turbines on the island to cover such eventualities?
