POLICE on the Isle of Wight have arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with an assault on a man at Newport bus station on Monday.

An appeal for witnesses has been launched after the assault, which took place between 2.50 and 3.10pm.

A police spokeswoman said: "An older man is alleged to have punched a younger Newport man, 24, in the face.

"The victim was left with a bloody nose."

PC Alan Spence said there were many people in and around the bus station at the time of the alleged assault.

"We need to hear from anyone who heard words exchanged between the two men or who saw an assault," said PC Spence.

The 43-year-old Newport man was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed, pending police enquiries, until February 11.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Spence at Newport on 101.
