THE victim of an unprovoked assault suffered a black eye and cuts to his nose, according to Isle of Wight police.

A spokeswoman said the assault happened on Sunday, near the e-cigarette shop — formerly Tomorrow’s Mirrors — between 12:15am and 12:25am.

The victim, aged 35, was assaulted by a man described as short and in his 20s, the spokeswoman said.

Investigating officers said: "The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in full view of the William Coppin pub. It was a busy time with lots of people coming and going.

"The victim needed to be treated at St Mary’s hospital following the attack."
