POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a man was hit by a car in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday).
Officers were called at around 1.10am to a report of a pedestrian injured in a collision with a car on Long Lane, near the junction with Buckbury Lane, on the outskirts of Newport, Isle of Wight.
The 25-year-old man from Southsea received bruising.
Insp Martin Goodall, of Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit, said: "Initial enquiries suggest the car failed to stop at the scene, but it could be the driver did not realise a collision had occurred.
"I am appealing for any motorists who were travelling on Long Lane at around 1am on Sunday to contact police if they saw a man walking along the road or think they may have hit something or someone.
"The Roads Policing Unit would like to take this opportunity to remind people not to walk on the roads around the Bestival music festival.
"There are clearly advertised frequent public transport services for pedestrians travelling to and from Robin Hill country park.
"It's also important to remember that 30mph restrictions remain in place on roads around the Bestival this morning (Monday).
"Our message to motorists is that speed limits exist for everyone to be safe; do not risk stealing a few miles per hour because you could take someone’s life."
