Six weeks without a proper league match was all the inspiration the Rosslyn Park Slingbacks needed for their 40-0 demolition of Lewes on Sunday.

Slingbacks seemed to relish the chance to get back out on the field again, touching down for eight tries in 80 minutes.

While Lewes started out with a weakened team, due to injuries, the sides were evened up at kick off when Park coach Ian Hutchinson decided to loan the visitors two of his subs. But the move had little effect on Park who were determined to prove themselves again.

And prove themselves they did! The Park forwards dominated both at scrum time and in the lineouts. Prop Jane Griffiths was outstanding in the rucks, scoring herself the player of the day award, while her partner on the blindside Vicky Price, in her debut for Park was awarded with her first try for the club after a surging drive down the left flank.

With the Park forwards dominating in the middle of the park the work of the back line was made easier. But Lewes also made the mistake of giving the Park backs too much room.

Inside centre Camilla Brueton made full use of the extra space, touching down for a hat-trick of tries.

Full-back Miranda Pike also found the line twice, while centre Laura Wilkinson and wing Tracie Simpson, also in her league debut, finished off the convincing victory.
