A SCHEME to build 26 holiday homes at the Lower Hyde Holiday Village, Shanklin, has been given the go ahead.
The holiday chalets will consist of 18 two-bedroom and eight three-bedroom homes for tourists, each with its own private amenity area. Parking for 26 vehicles will also be provided on the site.
The scheme involves building on land occupied by the former Copse Cottage, which was knocked down following a fire.
The project was approved by the IW Council’s planning committee last Tuesday.
Cllr Arthur Taylor said: "This is a worthy application. I don’t think it will be detrimental to the area and it will be a boost to tourism.
"These buildings are substantial and of high quality."
However, Cllr Paul Fuller told members he would be voting against the proposals as they would be occupied all year.
He said: "We are creating permanent structures that will be lived in for 52 weeks of the year and will be outside of the development envelope."
