AN ISLE of Wight asthma research centre based at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, is sharing in the glory of international recognition for its work helping allergy experts in Southampton.
The asthma, allergy and immunology service at Southampton’s teaching hospitals has been named as a world centre of excellence by the World Allergy Organisation.
The service has close links with the David Hide Asthma and Allergy Research Centre on the Isle of Wight.

Various projects underway involve studying the effects of both genetic and environmental factors and how changes in the make-up of genes can play a role in altering the risk of allergic disease to see how the process can be reversed.
