A MAN suffered a serious eye injury in an assault near an Isle of Wight pub during the early hours of Sunday.
A 48-year-old man was attacked by a verge near to the William Coppin pub near the Coppins Bridge roundabout at about 12.50am.
The victim was taken to St Mary’s Hospital with a suspected fracture to his eye socket, together with bruising and swelling to his face.
Investigating officer DC Andy Cooper, of Newport CID, said: "There had been a minor altercation inside the pub earlier in the evening.
"When the man left, he was assaulted by another man who was with two women.
"There were a number of people in the area that night and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information to contact me on 101."
