A MAN with learning difficulties was attacked in the early hours of New Year’s Day, according to Isle of Wight police, who have launched an investigation.

A spokeswoman said the attack occurred at about 1.30am, in Sherbourne Avenue, Ryde, as the 42-year-old victim was walking home.

The spokeswoman said it appeared to be a nasty and unprovoked assault and the victim was left with a bloodied mouth and scratches.

The suspect was described as a white man, aged between 20 to 30, about 6ft tall, skinny, with short dark spiky hair, clean shaven and piercings in both ears. He was wearing a jacket and scruffy trainers.

The suspect was accompanied by two females, described as slim with scruffy hair and clothing.
