Attacker’s bid to smash shop window

A still from the CCTV camera of the attack on the store window.

A MASKED person armed with a weapon attempted to break into a shop in Ryde during the early hours of last Friday morning.

The attempted burglary took place at the Premier West Store Express in Monkton Street.

The person can be seen on CCTV footage attacking the shop window with a weapon eight times, before giving up and fleeing.

The incident comes just weeks after the store reopened following a refurbishment.

Owner Kamedih Chandrakumar said it would cost £500 to replace the window with toughened glass.

He said: "It is disappointing because the shop only re-opened three or four weeks ago and then this happens."

Police investigations are continuing and anyone with information can contact East Wight Targeted Patrol Team at Ryde Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
