PARENTS, staff and businesses have donated 'promises' to Christ the King College’s auction, due to take place on Saturday, May 19.
It is part of the Newport college effort to raise ten per cent of the £250,000 cost of the first phase of building its new sixth form building. As a voluntary-aided school, it is required to contribute one-tenth of the cost of all capital projects.
Guests on the evening will be welcomed with a cocktail and entertained by the college jazz band.
They will then be served a three-course meal designed and prepared by Colby Meredith, head chef at the Seaview Hotel, and served by student waiters and waitresses.
The meal will be followed by the auction of promises and a raffle. Warren Riches, from the Island Auction Rooms, has agreed to be the auctioneer.
Auction promises include a bottle of House of Commons whisky, signed by David Cameron, a three-night stay for six people at a private gated house in central London and two tickets to Dare to Dance with Ann Widdecombe plus a summer buffet supper.
There are meals at various Island restaurants and hotels, an eye test and pair of designer glasses, a tour of St Mary’s Stadium, the home of Southampton Football Club, and a family portrait session.
Island band The Monitors have promised to play at an event or venue of the successful bidder’s choice, and there is a luxury salon makeover, a carpenter for a day and many more lots.
Tickets for the event are £10 and available from the college.
