AN Isle of Wight-based computer games developer attempting to raise $400,000 to produce a new Carmageddon game has raised well over half the cash.

At the time of going to press, nearly 7,100 people had backed Stainless Games’s bid to fund a long-awaited follow-up to their hugely successful Carmageddon franchise.

The project had bagged more than $279,000 in online pledges through the Kickstarter website.

The company, which is based in Newport High Street, has until June 6 to raise the full amount.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation is set to be a major re-boot of the much-loved series, which features anything-goes races through massive open-world environments.

The Kickstarter website has successfully funded almost 22,000 schemes since it was created in 2009.

What about a game where an inept overpaid council rides roughshod over the local population for self gain and greed, you could call it Pughmageddon. Oh hang on, we've already got it..........
