THE future of Wight Challenge — which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year — has been secured for the next three years after Wightlink renewed its sponsorship deal with the popular event.
The Wight Challenge triathlon, one of the most gruelling events on the Island’s sporting calendar, has raised £191,600 for good causes from 13 events since it was launched in 2004.
Wightlink’s support for the event, held bi-annually, will continue through to 2016.
Wight Challenge organiser Joanna Minchin was delighted with the news. She said: "Wightlink’s renewal of its sponsorship for the next three years is such a boost for the event.
"At the end of last year we produced a very positive report for Wightlink, which I am sure helped to persuade them to continue their sponsorship.
"County Press articles, photos and adverts provided a large chunk of the report. The paper’s support is hugely appreciated."
As ever, this year's events will be based at Jersey Camp, Porchfield, with teams challenged to cycle 18 miles, canoe two miles and finally run eight miles.
