HIGH Wycombe turned the formbook upside-down holding league leaders Oxted and their Olympic hero Callum Giles to a 4-4 draw on Saturday.

And the Bucks side came within a whisker of taking all three points before they were cruelly denied by a last-gasp equaliser with just seconds of the match remaining.

The Wycombe side made a mockery of the 27 points that separate them from the undefeated league leaders with a high octane performance.

They battled back from going behind to their now customary early goal by giving Giles' men the fright of their lives.

Chris Allfrey brought Wycombe level after a barrage of corners but the Cressex side found themselves back under pressure again when skipper Dominic Day was despatched to the sin bin.

Oxted made the most of their numerical advantage with Olympian Giles slotting home two penalty corners to give Wycombe a mountain to climb.

But the plucky hosts grabbed a lifeline when Duncan Parnis' penalty corner strike went under the Oxted keeper.

Wycombe grew in confidence and began to dominate the game and were good value for their equaliser when it came. Allfrey was fouled in the circle and Parnis nonchalantly converted the penalty.

And the hosts were in dreamland as they took the lead for the first time in the match with just two minutes to go as Graham Thomas fired home.

But Oxted nabbed an equaliser in the dying embers from a dubious penalty corner to keep their unbeaten record intact.
