Bands in the running to hog the limelight

THE organiser of the first Band On Da Run has called on more Isle of Wight groups to sign up.

Twenty bands have registered for the event on July 21 and each will have six hours to play an original ten-minute acoustic set in as many of the designated venues as possible.

The bands will start at noon in one of the venues in Newport, Ryde and Cowes, and the group that plays in the most will win £1,000.

The top five bands will also win a spot at this year's Postfest and all the money raised will go to Island causes. Organiser Rob Carr urged more bands to get involved.

He said: "This is the first time I’ve done anything like this but I would like it to grow and grow.

"I really want to promote Island talent and bring the music community back to life, so it would be great if more Island musicians got involved."

An after party will be held at the William Coppin, Newport, from 7pm, where the winners will be announced.
