Motorist calls for buses to stick to lanes

TUESDAY MAY 23. AN angry motorist says Harlow buses should be forced to use new bus lanes.

Commuter Reg Brown, of Orchard Croft, claims they will be a waste of money if they are under-used.

He said: 'It would have been better to build a dual carriageway'.

Mr Brown wants buses to be forced to use bus lanes to free up the flow of private traffic.

He said: 'If you drove a car in a bus lane you'd be stopped, but they can have the best of both worlds and drive in either lane.'

A Harlow Council spokeswoman said the council was getting a number of queries on the matter.

She said vehicles allowed to use the bus lanes included school buses, works buses, express carriages, any vehicle seating 12 or more, taxis and emergency services vehicles.

Selected buses have also been fitted with the latest electronics using satellite technology to switch traffic lights to speed the journey along the route.
