A titanic battle with old foes Sutton saw title-chasing Kingstonian grab a late draw at Gander Green Lane on Saturday.

They came from 1-0 down and 3-1 behind to take a vital point from a tough encounter.

Muddy conditions and a bumpy pitch hampered the sweeter passing Ks. And there seemed no way back after they went two goals behind in a three-minute spell of pressure from the home side.

But they dug in, with goals from Eddie Akuamoah and captain Terry Evans squaring the match.

"I was thinking it wasn't going to be our day," admitted boss Geoff Chapple. "But I give them 10 out of 10 for the character they showed.

"They really went for the jugular and in the end I thought we were unlucky not to win it."

He sees it as a point won rather than two points dropped. But closest challengers Boreham Wood took maximum points from their weekend encounter, and can now pip Ks to the Ryman Premiership crown if they win their six remaining games.

It won't be easy for them, as they have to play Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday two weeks in a row.

"If they do that then they'll be worthy champions," said Chapple.

Ks were in action last night in the final of the Surrey Senior Cup, playing Chapple's old club Woking. Pick up a copy of our sister paper the Surrey Comet, tomorrow, to see how they got on.
