HUNDREDS of pounds worth of damage was caused to locked containers used to store deckchairs on Ryde beach.

Isle of Wight police are appealing for help to identify those responsible for the damage, which happened sometime last weekend.

The containers belonged to a deckchair hire company which said: "In addition to my financial loss the condition which the containers are left in after the damage could pose a hazard to innocent beachgoers.

"I do not want an innocent person to be hurt because of another person’s thoughtless actions."

Anyone with information should contact PC Rich Hindle at Ryde police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
