UPDATED 11:03*

A DRAMATIC beach landing was made by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance yesterday (Sunday).

Witnesses looked on as the helicopter landed at Ventnor beach and then moved on to the esplanade.

The air ambulance was called to assist following a report of a man with chest pains, according to Isle of Wight NHS.

The man was eventually taken to St Mary's Hospital by road, however. Further details of his condition were not available according to a St Mary's Hospital spokeswoman this morning (Monday).

*Witness Sandra Jackson said: "After a short walk along Ventnor promenade, at 11.20am we were eating our sandwiches on top of Ventnor Sea front tower, when we noticed a helicopter circling above us.

"To our amazement the air ambulance landed on the beach. When the area had been cleared by police, the helicopter then parked on the cement by the tower."
