Bestival Fairy calls it a day

KNOWN as the Bestival Fairy for her efforts in helping disabled youngsters and their families enjoy the event, an Isle of Wight woman has decided to hang up her wings.

For six years Jenny Obbard, of Perowne Way, Sandown, has worked with Bestival organisers to give youngsters registered with the Isle of Wight Children Disability Team the chance to go to the event.

Event organisers give the youngsters and their siblings, parents or carers free tickets for the festival and provide support for them throughout the weekend.

Jenny has decided to hand over the reins of helping to organise the trip to Julie Loosemore and her family, including Christina, 15, and James, 12, who have been among those to benefit in previous years.

Jenny praised Bestival for its help, especially Duncan Turner, Matt Sangster and Frank Barlow.

"I am very passionate about disabled people having the same opportunities as everyone else and Bestival has helped facilitate this — not in a tokenistic way — but they have pulled out all the stops," she said.
