BESTIVAL scooped best major festival at last night's (Monday) UK Festival Awards.

It is not the first time the Isle of Wight event has won the top accolade, having previously been voted top in 2010.

Curator Rob da Bank was unable to collect the award, because of illness, but the rest of the team, including Isle of Wight residents Ziggy Gilsenan and John Hughes, were on hand to accept the honour at a ceremony held at the Roundhouse in London.

Bestival turned to Twitter to thank fans who voted for them: "Wowsers! We've won Best Major Festival at the @Festival_Awards big big thanks to all who voted for us :) x"

Rob added: "A 1000 thanks to all who voted for @bestival to win Major UK festi. We did it! Sadly I was lying in bed ill but yes!"

Jake Bugg, who was yesterday (Monday) among a host of names confirmed for next year's Isle of Wight Festival scooped best breakthough act.
