ADDISCOMBE 3 CHEAM 2

Surrey Division Two League leaders Addiscombe travelled to Cheam and secured a crucial victory as the season's end approaches.

Cheam's forwards made inroads into Addiscombe's half early on and the visitors took the lead from a short corner after one of their forwards flicked the rebound in off the helmet of Addiscombe keeper Davis.

Addiscombe quickly responded with Chris Reid equalising.

The second half began much as the first with both sides battling hard.

Cheam regained the lead with 20 minutes to go when a free hit into the D was deflected past Davis.

But again Addiscombe responded when Martin Stevens converted a short corner. It seemed the match would end in a draw until Addiscombe forced another short corner, allowing player-coach Keith Yeates to slot home his 17th of the season.

With Addiscombe's nearest rivals HAC losing at Merton, the Croydon team extended their lead at the top of the table to 11 points.

Meanwhile, Addiscombe's second XI recorded an excellent 3-1 win over Sanderstead with a Simon Reay-Jones brace and a rocket from Rob Butlin doing the damage.

The third XI's promotion ambitions took a tumble with a 3-2 away loss at Sunbury. Ben Wilson and Tom Beany were Addiscombe's scorers.

In the women's competition, Addiscombe's ladies first XI shared the points with Surbiton 4A's after blowing numerous chances in a 2-2 draw.

Emily Campbell and Michelle Glaister were on target for the Croydon side.

Addiscombe moved clear in ladies division six following a 2-0 victory over Croydon MO at Rose Hill. The match was evenly balanced with each team's finishing ptroving the difference.

Addiscombe took the lead through Di Thomas after a beautifully worked short corner before Carol Driver doubled the advantage.

MO will be hoping Addiscombe can beat third-placed Bank of England next week as that would mean MO require only two wins and a draw from their remaining five league games to be certain to follow Addiscombe into Division Five.
