Bid to attract more visitors

Visit Shanklin Ltd has been formed to promote Shanklin as a holiday destination.

A NEW company has been formed to promote Shanklin as a holiday destination.

Visit Shanklin Ltd has been created by Shanklin Theatre and Community Trust to spend the £11,246 grant given by the town council and work with Shanklin Hotel and Accommodation Association (SHAA).

Visit Shanklin hopes to attract other funding and improve and expand SHAA’s website, which already receives 2.5 million 'hits’ a year, last Thursday’s meeting of Shanklin Town Council was told.

A presentation is to be made to a future meeting on the set-up of the community trust and its commercial arms and the relationship with the council after mayor Cllr Steve Knight expressed concern at the public perception of 'closeness’ between the council and trust, which jointly rescued the theatre.

Wonderful to hear that this lovely town has taken charge of their future. If there is one piece of advice I can give the team is: Under no circumstances allow David Pugh anywhere near the programme.

Good luck and best wishes to the team and Shanklin Town

Looking forward to meeting the visit Shanklin team and working together to put this great place and even greater theatre on the map! The theatre helps to maintain the local economy by bringing visitors into shanklin, especially in the evenings. With our brand new London press office launching in November, we have a great channel we can use to promote Shanklin and all the other special places on the island.
