A STUNNING pearl necklace was sold for £10,000 by Island Auction Rooms during its annual Cowes Week sale earlier this month.
Auctioneer Warren Riches said the internet had proved pivotal to this year’s sale, staged at the Masonic Lodge in the town, with bids for the top lots coming from the Isle of Wight and the mainland.
The natural salt water pearl necklace, usually a poor seller, attracted wild internet bidding and eight phone lines before being sold to a buyer in London.
Strong internet bidding also resulted in a gold necklace, probably of Middle Eastern origin, selling for £6,100.
In the clock section, a Dent four-glass clock sold for £6,000.
