THE shop floor at Sainsbury’s, Cowes, will almost double in size due to customer demand, the supermarket giant has said.

After replacing Somerfield and opening as a Sainsbury’s Local convenience store last year, the High Street shop will be transformed into a full-size supermarket from March 29.

The sales area will increase from 3,000 to 5,500sq ft and there will be a greater choice of products and offers.

Sainsbury’s project manager Daren Carpenter said: "Since our opening last year, customers have told us they would like to do their weekly shop at the store, so we are increasing the size of the sales area to give customers what they want.

"When the store relaunches it will have an improved product choice, with a number of new lines and customers will be able to enjoy a larger range of Sainsbury’s offers."

Opening hours at the supermarket will be 7am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays.

The store will be closed for eight days ahead of the relaunch, while refurbishment work is carried out.
