ANNOYED with the litter around his home, a Ryde youngster decided to take matters into his own hands.
Osborne Middle School pupil Billy Urry, 11, called the Isle of Wight Council to complain about the rubbish littering Sherbourne Avenue and said he would be happy to tidy it up himself.
After making posters to advertise the litter pick, he recruited neighbours and they filled seven black bags with crisp packets, cans, bottles and sweet wrappers.
"It looked awful before but it’s much better now," said Billy.
"It’s irresponsible of people to drop litter. Everyone should keep the streets clean around their homes."
Linda Shorter, an environment and neighbourhood officer at the council, also went along to lend a hand.
She said: "Everyone did a brilliant job. They were very enthusiastic and have set such a good example to others."
Billy has also asked the council to provide more litter bins in the area.
