Bin fire behind pub

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a bin fire last night (Saturday) behind Wetherspoons pub, Ryde.

They attended the scene, at Church Lane, shortly before 10.30pm.

A spokesman for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "When we first got the call someone thought a shop or a flat was on fire, but luckily it wasn't that serious. The fire had nothing to do with the pub."

Earlier in the evening, shortly after 6pm, firefighters were called to Ashey Road, Ryde, where an area of railway embankment land was alight.

However, the small fire had already been extinguished by Isle of Wight Steam Railway staff when they arrived.
