THE NHS is appealing for new blood donors across the Isle of Wight to come forward over the new year holiday.

As part of a national campaign, the NHS wants 100,000 new donors across the UK to donate blood until February 14, 2013.

Since 2009, 1,367 people aged 17 to 24 on the Island have registered as donors and 6,593 collections have been made between 2011 and 2012.

Between the same period, 3,523 people across the IW have made at least one whole blood donation.

Donor sessions on the Island will take place at the Riverside Centre, Newport, on Wednesday, January 9, from 1pm to 3.30pm and again from 4.30pm to 7pm, followed by another at Sandown Rugby Club on Friday, January 11, at the same times.

Appointments must be booked by visiting or phoning 0300 123 23 23.
