THE discovery of bones in Isle of Wight woodland led to a police investigation at the weekend.
The bones were found by a group of metal detectorists in an area known as Spencer's Copse, near Worsley Road and Shore Road, Gurnard.
An Isle of Wight police spokeswoman said the group reported the discovery at 2.12pm on Saturday and a police scenes of crime officer cordoned off the area.
The bones were recovered and taken to St Mary’s Hospital, where they were eventually found to be animal remains.
The police spokeswoman said the site was believed to be an old Victorian bottle dump.
