PARENTS and carers of children and young people with disabilities can make use of the Isle of Wight Council's fully accessible holiday accommodation at a subsidised rate this year.
Bookings are now being taken for three, four and seven night breaks at a specially adapted holiday lodge at Nodes Point Holiday Park in Seaview and caravan at Lower Hyde Holiday Park in Shanklin.
The holidays are available to families with children and young people with disabilities and/or additional needs who hold a Gateway Card PLUS - which are available via the council's Short Breaks service.
"The holiday facilities enable local families to spend much needed time together with the reassurance that all the specialist equipment they need - such as hoists and ramps - is taken care of, enabling them to focus on taking part in fun and interesting activities as a family," said Councillor Paul Brading, Cabinet member for children and young people.
"We know from families who have taken breaks via the service in the past that the time away is vitally important for the whole family as it enables them to spend quality time with one another away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, giving everyone the chance to recharge their batteries.
"The council is pleased to be able to offer these facilities to local families who really benefit from time spent away at three of the Island's loveliest holiday spots."
The council's Short Breaks programme also offers a range of after-school clubs, evening and weekend activities for children and young people with disabilities and or/additional needs, up to the age of 19.|
