PEOPLE on the Isle of Wight can take out a book and pay their council tax at the same time, thanks to a new system introduced at libraries.

The Isle of Wight Council has become the first in the country to introduce the system, at self-service kiosks in Ryde and Newport Libraries, as part of a trial.

The system means library users can enter their council tax bill details and use a debit or credit card to make a payment.

The council said it planned to extend the service to four council run libraries, Freshwater, Cowes, Sandown and Ventnor once a self-service kiosk is installed in each library in November.

The Isle of Wight Council has produced a video to show people how to use the system, which can be seen below:

Why bother with this new kit? There's a perfectly good drain outside my house if you want to bung your hard earned cash down it.

And the next thing our council leader will bring in will be self service councilors, and the only one's that CAN make descions on ANYTHING to do with OUR ISLAND is PUGH and is MERRY MEN. Currently there are many ways to pay the council tax and the like already but HAVING a job and being able to pay the council tax are TWO different things. There is NO mention of any NEW jobs from this TORIE council ONLY more cost CUTTING and more people LOOSING their JOBS. Or is it a PUGH / TORIE experiment to USE OUR island and model us on George Orwell's book Nineteen eighty-four.
