A SCHOOL'S response when a pupil went into an allergy-related shock has been given a second award for its actions, this time by the Anaphylaxis Campaign.

Quick-thinking teachers and pupils at Northumberland Heath Primary School, Erith, were awarded a certificate of good practice to join their award from the British Allergy Foundation.

Lauren Beale, 10, who has a nut allergy, was saved from a fatal anaphylactic shock last year, after she suffered an extreme allergic reaction.

She had felt unwell after lunch and, as Lauren's face began to swell and she struggled to breathe, the school first aider Nikki Green was able to administer a life-saving injection of adrenaline.

She followed this with a second epipen, after the first one failed to work.

Lauren was rushed to Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, where she made full recovery.

Representatives from the charity presented an award to teachers and pupils at the school as part of National Citizenship Week.
