Bound for Paris on two wheels

Ian Tilbury of Salters Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight, who is cycling to Paris in aid ofthe Royal British Legion.

AN ISLE of Wight man is preparing to take on a challenging bike ride from London to Paris to raise money for The Royal British Legion in support of the Armed Forces.

Ian Tilbury will be one of 300 cyclists on the Pedal to Paris bike ride, which starts in London on Thursday and ends at the Arc de Triomphe on Sunday.

It will be the Legion’s 17th annual Pedal to Paris event and is the only charity ride to be escorted into the French capital by police outriders.

Born and bred on the Isle of Wight, Ian served for 22 years in the Royal Navy.

He retired from active service in 1999 and now works at BAE Systems in Portsmouth, commuting daily.

He has teamed up with two fellow ex-Royal Navy employees from the company for the event, Roger Jones and Dan Daly — both from the 'North Island’ — to form the Pompey Pedallers’ fundraising team.

Ian, of Salters Road, Ryde is hoping to raise at least £1,000 towards the RBL’s vital welfare work.
