Children from Island primary schools dressed up as their favourite book characters, read with their friends and families and wrote their own masterpieces.
At Brighstone Primary School, youngsters made zig-zag books in reception, wrote instructional books for aliens and created book jackets for their own stories.
Meanwhile, children at Nine Acres Primary School, Newport, also took part in a book character day, where pupils dressed up as their favourite characters, while fathers and grandfathers read stories to the children, in a drive to get more boys reading.
As well as meeting Sailor Ted author Frank Fenwick, children at All Saints’ Primary in Freshwater, took part in a number of events including a visit to the library.
The headteacher of Brighstone Primary School, Amanda Johnston, said: "We’ve had an absolutely wonderful week. The children have really enjoyed getting absorbed in books.
"I am delighted with the response from the home learning project. Families have worked extremely well together to produce some fantastic picture books, which will live long in our wonderful school library and I’m sure will gain much use. The week has been a huge success, sparking children’s interest in reading and producing some excellent writing."
