BRITTEN-Norman is to produce its own Islander landing gear.
Acquiring the Bristol-based Claverham Islander landing gear production line represents substantial investment by the Bembridge-based Isle of Wight aircraft company.
It will now re-establish new build and after-market support for landing gear manufacture at its UK facilities.
The work will be carried out by a new team dedicated to landing gear manufacture, supported by the existing UK and overseas supply chain, while the company's landing gear overhaul team will continue to focus on after-market business.
The work at mainland parts of the business will be supported by the team at Bembridge and may lead to further growth of the production workforce in 2018.
Britten-Norman Aircraft's technical director David Shaw said: "As soon as we were aware of Claverham's intention to divest their BN2 landing gear business we made a decision this product line was a complementary fit for our existing component production capabilities and commenced negotiations to acquire.
"We are very excited at our parent company's investment in our business and see this as a perfect opportunity to expand our services and support to our customers while helping to keep manufacturing jobs in the UK."
The Islander is a British aviation success story, continuing strong worldwide sales 50 years after it first took to the skies.
