Burgers add up for Ellen’s cancer trust

A RESTAURANT in Freshwater is helping to support the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust — by making a donation each time it sells a burger.

Barefoot on the Beach at Colwell Bay is donating £1 to the trust from every burger. The trust which takes young people in recovery from cancer sailing, to help rebuild their confidence.

The burger is a restaurant favourite, and since August 15, 210 have been sold, which means £210 has gone towards taking one person on a four-day sailing trip — which costs £500.

And there are no plans to take the burger off the menu, which means the trust will continue to receive support from the restaurant.

Barefoot on the Beach owner, Fraser Lloyd Jones, said: "It makes sense with our location to support a charity that uses the water. We chose to support the trust due to its sailing connection and fact it works for children who have been through hard times, which is something close to our hearts."

Launched in 2003 by Dame Ellen MacArthur, the trust’s main activity is taking young people on four-day sailing trips to help them rebuild their confidence, giving the young people a chance to test themselves in a safe and supportive environment.
