A BURST water main forced buses to be diverted in Ryde this morning (Tuesday).

The seven inch water main, in the vicinity of St John’s Road, Ryde, burst at about 7am.

Southern Vectis said its Route 2, 3 and 8 services were being diverted via Monkton Street, Wood Street and Dover Street to Ryde Library.

Outbound journeys were not affected the company said on Twitter.

Temporary traffic lights have been set up to control the flow of traffic at the junction of St John's Road and Monkton Street.

A Southern Water spokesperson said: "We had about two calls from customers in the area to report no water.

"Repair crews have found the burst and are carrying out repairs. Traffic management is currently in place while repair work is underway.

"We can assure customers we’re working as fast as we can to complete our work and we hope to complete repairs by lunchtime today.

"We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding."
