Bus and van in collision

A BUS and a van have collided this afternoon (Monday).

It happened at around 1pm outside Wellow Manor Farm Cottages.

Emergency services, including two fire appliances and the fire services’ rescue unit, are at the scene.

Isle of Wight ambulance service took a man and a woman to St Mary's Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet know.

A spokesman for Southern Vectis said one passenger was taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The driver of the service 7 bus travelling towards Yarmouth, and 19 other passengers were shaken but unharmed. 

"The bus has been driven back to the depot where CCTV data will be viewed to assist the police with their investigation. 

"It's believed that the van driver was taken to hospital," said the spokesman.

The council said waste collections in the area, due to have happened today, will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) instead.

*Wellow Road was re-opened by 4.30pm. The Isle of Wight Council urged drivers to take care as the road surface may be slippery.

A spokeswoman for the Isle of Wight NHS PCT said the female casualty was treated and discharged this afternoon. The man was admitted, with non-serious injuries, the spokeswoman added.
