Bus damaged by overhanging branch

SEVERE winds are thought to have dislodged a branch which damaged the top-deck front windscreen of a bus.

A Southern Vectis spokesman said: "The double decker bus hit an overhanging branch in Forest Road, Newport, on Monday afternoon that had been dislodged by the severe winds and the weight of rainwater.

"The top-deck windscreen was damaged and has yet to be fully assessed. Fortunately, no one was injured.

"The bus was replaced so passengers could continue their journey. The authorities have been informed and bus staff are ensuring no other high vehicles hit the obstruction."
