RADICAL ideas to boost the Isle of Wight's economy as it emerges from the recession were outlined to business leaders at a meeting at the Riverside Centre, Newport on Sunday.
Speakers from the economic and social think tank, the New Economics Foundation, addressed the business community on how they could build on the Island’s strengths to support its economy, at the meeting which was organised by Island MP, Andrew Turner and chaired by County Press editor, Alan Marriott.
Mr Turner said: "At times, our Island economy can seem fragile, if the UK sneezes, then we catch the cold. But there are certainly things that we can do to help ourselves. We can work together and be alive to the opportunities and disadvantages we have.
"I want to help our business community develop an approach to stimulating the Island’s economy that can generate immediate as well as longer-term benefits."
