A patient died from a complication following a routine procedure after he had previously survived a rare form of major surgery, an inquest heard.
Restaurateur Joseph Nasr underwent surgery to remove a cancer growth from his jaw at Clementine Churchill Hospital in Sudbury Hill, Harrow, in December last year.
The operation was performed by surgeon Henri Thuau who was a friend and neighbour of 47-year-old Mr Nasr in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.
Mr Thaua said the surgery was an ñextensive and complexîÍ procedure but that Mr Nasr seemed to be recovering well. But a bleeding from a routine tracheotomy led to a ñcatastrophicî collapse 10 days after the operation and he died.
Coroner Dr William Dolman recorded a verdict of misadventure at Hornsey Coroners Court on Wednesday last week.
