THE Co-op store in Mill Hill Road, Cowes, has submitted a change of use planning application for part of its store.
If granted, it intends to open a cafe/restaurant to support the store.
A spokesperson for Southern Co-op said: "There is some open space in the store and a successful planning application would enable us to make use of the space."

I imagine it will be more of a takeout bar selling sarnies, etc... than a sit in cafe. It works well elsewhere however as people have pointed out below it depends on the available space as to whether it is viable.

There isn't a lot of space in there, although I assume they wouldn't miss the extra few tills since they are never open anyway! I can't see someone choosing to sit inside a windowless cafe when they could be on the high st though. Best of luck anyway!

Great store and a credit to Manager and staff. I would not have thought however that there is enough room to really provide a full café/coffee shop which would have the degree of separateness from eg the veg area to appeal. Anyway, good luck altho' perhaps a bit hard on the existing cafes.
