Wilmington caused a cup upset on Saturday sending Kent Junior Cup holders Beauwater crashing out in the first round with a convincing 4-2 victory.

Midfield playmaker Chris Marie set Wilmington on their way by curling a shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the box after 15 minutes.

The visitors equalised but Wilmington continued to threatenen and just before the break Adam Harber beat the offside trap and coolly rounded the advancing keeper to put Wilmington back in front.

Early into the second half Adam Harber struck a powerful shot which the Beau-water keeper could only parry into the path of Mark Jackson, who made no mistake from close range.

Despite conceding a second goal after a defensive mix-up, Wilmington never looked like losing their grip on the tie and Roger Morgan ensured their passage into the next round with a long-range effort.

The reserves were in league action and they had debut keeper Danny Mills to thank after he produced a fantastic display to earn his side a point from a 1-1 draw away at Old Roan A.

Roan went ahead in the 30th minute but Wilmington levelled 20 minutes from time when Rick Cartwright volleyed home a Wayne Beckett corner.

Wilmington A earned a home replay in their Kent Junior Cup C Section first round match after a goal-less draw at Gravesend-based side Canel Tavern.

Wilmington start their league season on Saturday at Blackheath Reserves in the South London Alliance Premier Division.
