IT was billed as a six-pointer, but in the end both sides had to settle for one apiece in the bottom-of-the-table Conference League clash between Welling United and Doncaster Rovers at Park View Road on Saturday, writes Graham Bunce.

Welling started brightly and Stafford Browne, through on goal, was denied by a brilliant tackle by Rovers' Sutherland.

Brown then failed to get on the end of a cross from Darren Adams as United tried to make their early supremacy count.

But Rovers came more into the game and, gaining in composure, Hume then forced a smart save from Wings' keeper Glen Knight.

But Knight had no chance after 23 minutes when the same player drilled home a low shot following some slack marking in the home defence.

For a while the home goal was under siege and a number of quick corners were repelled.

Anderson came up from the back but passed when a lob might have paid better dividends as Welling came back into the game as the interval approached.

Welling continued to press after the break and only the woodwork denied them an equaliser.

Mark Cooper then found the net, only to find the referee had already blown for a free-kick on the edge of the penalty box.

Rovers' player-manager Ian Sno-din cleared off his own line and Cooper was inches away when his header shaved the post.

Welling finally gained reward for their efforts when, with only 11 minutes left, Darren Adams levelled after Brown's first attempt had only been parried.

The Wings travel to Hednesford on Saturday.
