A project to restore a rose garden to its original splendour has been boosted by a £1,000 grant.

The committee which is overseeing the regeneration of the historic Barra Hall Park received a cheque on Thursday from Angus Johnson the Single Regeneration Project co-ordinator of the Hayes and West Drayton partnership as part of its new community chest awards scheme.

Members of Hayes Town and Townfield tenants' and residents' associations are pictured inspecting the gardens in Grange Road, Hayes, with council environmental, leisure and community services employees.

Mrs Agius, chairman of the Townfield association, said more than £5,000 had already been raised for the garden, which should be in bloom in the summer, through sponsorship from local schools, businesses and organisations. The committee was one of 19 local organisations to receive between £350 to £1,000 in the first round of awards.
